W. Morgun,\neh-rk of tin grand jury. In the\nsummary it was shown that fif\nteen true jiills and live no true\nbills had I n returned. A total\nnumber of seventy six witnesses\nwa- examined, ami all matters\nof importance which w e r e\nbrought to the attention of that\nbody, were acted upon.\nin addition to the true bills\nand no returned, the grand jury\nmade -everal recommendations\nwhich the court said would be\nreferred to the proper officer\nami Wjoiild receive prompt and\ncareful con-ideration.\nThi- es?ion was a most import\nant one by reason of the very\nserious character of many offenses\nto be investigated. The work\nwas gone into thoroughly, fairly\nand impartially, and by this\nclass of work the members of\nthe grand jury have earned the\n'gratitude of all the people of\ni Hero county.\nCol. and Mrs. Henry. The total allowance for\nNew Mexico will be eight com\npanies of forty one each, and the\nfield battery of fifty live men\nfrom Ros wall.\nHie company w ill be assembled\nhere at the armory at six o'clock\nThursday morning, and board the\n10:40 a. m. train for Vaughn, to\nconnect with the special train\nover the Santa Fa, Company \"I\"\nof twenty one men will be con\nsolidated at Vaughn with the\ncompany from Clovis, nineteen\nmen under the command of 1st\nLieutenant Love, who will act as\nsecond lieutenant of the consoli\ndated company. The special\ntrain will leave Vaughn at 5 :iW\np. m., arriving at Albuquerque\nabout midnight. Early Friday\nmorning the troops will be re\nviewed at Albuquerque by Gor\nernor Mills. White,\nooder an indictment alleging\nmurder, has been in progre\nsince Friday morning. The kill\ning for winch White is being\ntried occurred in Pedro Aguilar\nsaloofl at Tularosa in the latter\npart of November. In the fight\nwhich occurred in the saloon.\nPedro Aguilar received wounds\nfrom which he died within a\nshort while, and White also was\nwounded twice, once in the hand\nand a slight wound in the left\nbreast, just over the heart. The\nbullet which inflicted the latter\nwound seemed to have spent its\nforce in the heavy clothing which\nWhite was wearing, and hardly\npenetrated the skin.\nAguilar was one of the most\nwidely known and highly re\nspected Mexican citizens in the\ncounty. White was a deputy\nsheriff at the time of the killing\nand was also well known. On\naccount of the fact that both\nmen were so well known, and so\nmuch publicity was given to the\naffair at the time, it was a diffi\ncult matter to secure twelve men\nwho could qualify to serve on\nthe jury. Only four jurors were\naccepted from the regular panel\nof 24. Friday afternoon a special\nvenire of fifty was drawn. Of\nthis number thirty reported and\nwere examined Monday, with\nthe result that seven qualified\nfor service. It is one of the very few\nall Knglish -peaking juries w hich\nthis county has had. Working\nwithout the aid of an interpreter\nwill greatly expedite the pro\ngress of the trial. It is estimat\ned now that the cost of the trial\nwill be in excess of two thousand\ndollars.\nThe territory it being repre\nsented by the district attorney.\nMajor W. H. H.
