Source Marks and Evidence Methodology

Every factual claim on this site carries an explicit evidence state. History that does not distinguish what is proven from what is guessed asks for belief rather than examination. Four states are used throughout:

• Sourced: Supported directly by an opened, cited primary record captured in this archive (such as patent book entries, contemporary newspaper reports, state brand registers, or court dockets).
• Inferred: Deduced from surrounding documentary evidence (such as census age brackets, deed witness lists, or tax delinquent rolls) where no single record states the relationship directly. The deduction and evidence are stated openly.
• Unverified: Asserted in family tradition, derivative compilations, or unproven memorials without an opened primary record. Recorded for completeness but distinguished from verified history.
• Retracted: An assertion previously published or accepted in research that was investigated and proven false. Fully documented in the corrections ledger.

Archive Scope and Link Integrity

A citation is worth only what a reader can actually verify. Web addresses reorganize, county databases disappear, and third-party media links expire. To ensure the evidence outlives the links, all 21 public source documents cited by this project were fetched, verified against SHA-256 cryptographic checksums, and committed to the repository.

At build time, automated guards verify that every manifest record exists, matches its checksum and byte size, and resolves to a functional reader and download link.

The Corrections Ledger

A research project that never records its own mistakes is asking to be trusted blindly. This archive maintains an append-only corrections log detailing all 118 historical revisions, including the prior text, the replacement finding, the author, the date, and the supporting evidence.

Privacy Boundaries

This archive documents the dead, not the living. Research is strictly bounded at Generation 6 (through John Melvin Waldrip and Marvin Charles Waldrip, born in the late 1930s).

Living relatives appear only as named contributors (such as relatives who wrote memorial songs or spoke at services). Their dates of birth, residential locations, and private records are omitted. Raw genealogy database dumps, internal audit logs, and temporary access tokens are never published.
